Easy Sourdough Sandwich Bread Recipe

If you love soft, fluffy bread with that perfect sourdough flavor, this recipe is for you! Perfect for sandwiches, toast, or just slathering with butter. Let’s get baking!

I've included weights for ingredients because weighing ingredients is more accurate and gives me more consistent results :) Remember to feed your starter about 12 hours before you're ready to bake!

Ingredients:

1 cup (240g) active sourdough starter (fed & bubbly)

1 ¼ cups (300g) warm water

2 tbsp (30g) honey (or sugar)

3 ½ cups (440g) bread flour (or all-purpose)

1 ½ tsp (9g) salt

2 tbsp (30g) butter, softened

Instructions:

1️⃣ Mix the Dough

In a large bowl, mix sourdough starter, warm water, and honey. Stir in flour and salt until combined. Add butter and knead until smooth (about 8-10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a mixer).

2️⃣ Bulk Fermentation

Cover the bowl with a damp towel and let it rise at room temp for 6-8 hours, or until doubled in size.

3️⃣ Shape the Loaf

Turn the dough onto a floured surface, shape it into a loaf, and place it into a greased 9x5” bread pan. Cover and let it rise for 2-4 hours, or until puffy.

4️⃣ Bake

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before slicing (if you can wait! 😉).

🍞 Pro Tips:

✔️ Make sure your sourdough starter is active for the best rise.

✔️ Want a softer crust? Brush the loaf with melted butter after baking.

✔️ Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
