The Great Egg Shortage of 2025

ree

Lately there has been a lot of talk about eggs, egg shortages, and egg prices. I have been told my eggs are priced too high. I’d like to take just a moment and address this.

Supporting local farmers means more than just buying food—it means investing in your community, in ethical animal care, and in real, high-quality nutrition.

Egg prices at the big box stores keep climbing, but here at our farm, we have not raised our egg prices, even though the cost of feeding our hens has gone up. Every month, we travel three hours to purchase freshly milled, Non-GMO, Certified Organic feed for our flock—because we believe our hens deserve the best, and in turn, so do you.

There is only one certified organic mill in our entire state, but we make the trip because we refuse to cut corners. Our birds are raised with love, care, and an attention to detail that surpasses any commercial operation. They are more than livestock—they are part of our farm family.

And feed costs? That’s just the beginning. Vet bills, infrastructure, medications, supplements, and enrichment all go into raising healthy, happy hens who lay the most nutritious eggs possible.

Raising happy, healthy hens is labor-intensive work. We collect eggs several times a day to ensure they never get too hot or too cold, keeping them fresh and high-quality. We also clean the coops, runs, and nesting boxes daily, providing a sanitary and stress-free environment for our flock. Regular inspections of each hen are done to ensure everyone is free of mites, lice, uninjured and happy. Fecals are regulary done through the vet, to ensure there are no parasite issues.

Our days start early and end late, ensuring that our hens are well-fed, safe, and comfortable. We handle every aspect of their care personally, from monitoring their health to making sure they have enrichment and space to roam.

When you choose to buy from a local farmer, you’re choosing fresh, ethical, and community-focused food. You’re choosing to support the people who pour their heart and soul into producing something real, rather than supporting industrial-scale farms that prioritize profits over care.

So the next time you’re at the store looking at those cartons of eggs, remember—there’s a local farmer who would love your support, and who has worked tirelessly to bring you something better.

🐓💛 Support local. Choose real food. Choose community.
